BBTLCS THE LAST CHANCE SANCTUARY COOK BOOK

Ever wanted to see your name in print? Do you have treasured family recipes that you would like to share with your friends and family? If so then have we got a deal for you.

As a fun way to raise money to help our feline friends we thought it may be nice to gather recipes and put them together in a cook book which would make the perfect gift. The proceeds will be used to fund TNR (trap, neuter, release) of the many feral cats in our local communities.

“TNR is the method of humanely trapping feral cats, having them spayed or neutered, vaccinated for rabies and then returning them to their colony to live out their lives. TNR helps the community by stabilizing the population of the feral colony and, over time, reducing it. At the same time, nuisance behaviors such as spraying, loud noise and fighting are largely eliminated and no more kittens are born. “TNR also helps the community’s animal welfare resources by reducing the number of kittens that would end up in their shelters – TNR creates more space for the cats and kittens who come to them from other avenues.”

We are hoping to collect 200 recipes by May 4th. Our finished book will be available in August at Petsmart and Petco during our adoption events. The cost $10.00

In addition if anyone would be interested in being a sponsor for our book? It would benefit us and also promote local businesses within the community.

PLEASE REVIEW THE DETAILS REGARDING SPONSORSHIP & HOW TO ENTER RECIPES BELOW

HELPFUL TIPS
1. List ingredients in order of use and make sure all ingredients are accounted for in the directions.
2. Abbreviate measurements in the ingredients list using standard abbreviations (see below). Spell them out in the directions.
3. Include all container sizes, e.g. 2 (8 oz.) cans.
4. Check for consistency of names, ingredients, etc. e.g. don’t use “1 c. butter” on some recipes and “2 sticks butter” on others.
5. Write directions in paragraph form, not in steps.
6. Use ingredient names in the directions, e.g., use “Combine flour and sugar” rather than statements such as “Combine the first two ingredients.”
7. Include temperatures and all cooking, chilling, baking, or freezing times.

An Update on the Hoarding Situation in Melbourne

There was a total of 60+ cats at this location. ALL except 4 have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, treated for fleas and parasites, and treated for any medical problems. Some will need follow up medical care. I have pulled 14 cats from this location to go into the foster program. Donations for this location are still needed for dry cat food, canned cat food, and cat litter. Monetary donations are needed to sponsor the 4 remaining cats and for any follow up medical care.

The 14 cats in the foster program from this situation all need medical care including spay/neuter, FIV/FELv combo test, microchip, vaccines, fecal tests, flea control etc… Some of these pulled were the sickest there and most are recovering well, and will require follow up care. Monetary donations for the fosters are needed for medical care.

To date, this person has been working to maintain a healthier population of cats and to maintain sanitary living conditions. This person is required to not take in any other animals and call me if any cats appear sick or injured immediately.

If any one is interested in adopting cats from this situation please contact me at info@thelastchancesanctuary.com. I have kittens ranging from 8 weeks up to 7 months. All are black and 1 is an Abyssinian. I also have 2 special needs cats, sisters, that are 7 months and have cerebellar hypoplasia. They are extremely sweet and will make excellent companions.

Thank you!

Cat Hoarding Case

Below is an email sent out by one of our volunteers, who is doing everything possible to solve a hoarding case involving over 30 cat/kittens… she is in need of donation help badly. Even $5-$10 can help her out greatly.

As a lot of you now know I have been working a tough hoarding case in Melbourne. I have gotten 21 spayed/neutered, vaccinated, treated for parasites, treated for fleas, and have gotten their medical problems taken care of. I have also pulled 11 kittens out of the house (they were all starving to death) that when ready will go into the foster program of The Last Chance Sanctuary and will be up for adoption. So far, all the kittens are doing better (except the one tortie I got this evening). 1 of these kittens needed it’s eye removed at 6 weeks of age, all of them were starving and extremely thin when I pulled them.

14 spay/neuter slots have been sponsored, and I thank those who have donated. I estimate at least 18 more appointments will be needed to complete this task. Food is also critically needed for these cats, as many are thin. Please, if anyone can donate towards this situation you may mail your donation to:

September 17 – 25 is “Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week”

Black cats. FIV+ cats. Senior pets. Special needs animals. Many factors can make a pet seem “less adoptable.” To help these wonderful pets who are very often overlooked find homes, Petfinder has designated September 17 – 25 as “Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week.”  The theme, “Don’t Hate Me Because I’m…, Adopt Me Because I Need You,” urges people to adopt those pets who suffer from discrimination.  Reasons include color, breed prejudice, ageism and special needs.

Here are some plusses we found to adopting “less adoptable” animals:
Older pets are mellower – you don’t have to worry about your lamp getting knocked over.
Physically challenged pets are often unaffected by their handicap – but you still look like a hero.
“Bad reputation” breeds – you get the chance to prove people wrong with your great dog.
Dark-furred pets make it easy to accessorize – black goes with everything.
Pets with behavioral issues allow you to form a tight bond as you overcome obstacles together.

These overlooked pets need homes too.  So to help find that furever home, many will be offered for reduced adoption fees.  The Last Chance Sanctuary is having a Special Adoption Event at Petco in Viera, Petco in West Melbourne and Petsmart, Melbourne on Saturday, September 17th from 12:00pm to 4:00pm to encourage potential adopters to consider pets they might not have previously. Also, these pets will be marked as a “Special” online on our Petfinder site all week long.  Please open your hearts and homes to these special kitties who need love too!
